We might have watched *slightly* too many horror films in the run-up to Halloween and we may have become *slightly* paranoid about a zombie apocalypse. But being the proactive lot we are, we decided to create a tech solution: a smart security owl! We’ve been super excited about making this since the new Raspberry Pi 4 dropped. Its 4GB RAM open the door to loads of really exciting possibilities, including doing image processing with deep learning models in real time, which our night vision owl uses to track people. Aside from all that complicated stuff, it also hoots, just like the real thing! This project is a fun and straightforward build and the final product is an absolute hoot (sorry). Get prepared for the zombie apocalypse - or just find which neighbour has been stealing your garden gnomes! Security doesn’t have to be boring to be effective!
